No U.S. Entry for Dheo, Baan and Sharma - Organizations for Minorities of India

Torture is so universally accepted and encouraged among the ranks of India’s police forces that it is a virtual certainty that anyone who is a police officer in India knows that torture occurs, has definitely been exposed to it, probably has participated in it and almost certainly has helped cover it up. Three top-ranking Indian police officers who are undoubtedly aware and tolerant of the ongoing practice of torture are about to tour the United States.

Gurpreet Dheo, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Parmodh Baan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) are S.K. Sharma, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) are top-ranking officers of Punjab Police. In early December, they are scheduled for a speaking tour of the U.S.A., to include New York, Texas, Michigan, and areas of California, including Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Fresno and Tracy. Perpetrators of atrocities, however, should not be allowed into the country.

You can help stop Dheo, Baan and Sharma. Here’s how:

1. Identify and contact your U.S. Representative. Ask your representative to speak in favor of denying visas to Dheo, Baan and Sharma.

2. Call the U.S. State Department’s Public Communication Division at 202-647-6575 to ask them to deny visas for Dheo, Baan and Sharma.

3. Call the U.S. Embassy to India in New Delhi at 011-91-11-2419-8000 and ask them to do what they can to deny visas for Dheo, Baan and Sharma.

4. Download, print and distribute the “End Torture by Indian Police” package, which includes 1) OFMI’s report, “Demons Within” and 2) a letter for your U.S. Representative.
